Beyond the Blackboard: Finding the Soul of Mathematics
The Turning Point
In September 2024, I walked away from a traditional, 9-to-6 teaching career to solve a problem that had been following me for years: Why is Mathematics—the very language of our universe— so often taught as something cold, abstract, and anxiety inducing?
My journey as an educator took me to both sides of the spectrum: teaching foundation-level mathematics in schools and advanced statistics at the college level. In both environments, I noticed a troubling pattern. In schools, students constantly suffocated under a weak grasp of the basics. But more shockingly, when I stood in front of college lecture halls, I watched young adults deeply struggle with those exact same fundamental school-level concepts.
That realization deeply worried me. The gaps left behind in childhood were echoing all the way into higher education. It became clear that we’ve spent too much time forcing students to look at flat blackboards for memorization, and not enough time helping them look at the world for understanding. I knew the entire approach to teaching math had to change.
The Vision: Math meets Nature
I founded Deschoolers to bridge the gap between abstract math and the natural world. From the logarithmic spiral of a seashell to the hexagonal efficiency of a honeycomb, mathematics isn’t just a set of rules to be memorized—it is a living pattern.
My mission is to take the “fear” out of formulas. By connecting core mathematical principles and statistical concepts to the biological and physical wonders of our planet, I help primary, middle-school, and lifelong learners see that logic is beautiful, and nature is the ultimate teacher.
Why I Teach
I teach because I believe a child’s relationship with math shapes their confidence for life. As a mentor, I don’t believe in “making learning easy” just by watering down the work. I believe in making it effective by making it deeply understandable.
My workshops and learning materials are designed to spark that magical “Aha!” moment—the exact moment where a student stops asking “When will I ever use this?” and starts recognizing mathematics in the veins of a leaf and the rhythm of the tides. I teach to turn math anxiety into a sense of wonder.
Join the Journey
Based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, I am building a community where curiosity is our compass. Whether you are a parent looking to ease your child’s math anxiety, a student struggling with equations, or a curious mind wanting to decode the patterns of existence, I invite you to see the world through a different lens.
